Bruce Lieberman
Science & Environment Writer, Editor
University of California San Diego
Since 2012 I've written for the UC San Diego Physics Department, producing an annual department newsletter. More than a showcase for university news, these newsletters have included in-depth Q&A interviews and feature stories with physicists in the Department. Here are links to each one:
2015/16: Includes features on new physics explorations at the Large Hadron Collider, and the development of novel materials that "trap" light.
2014: Includes a feature on the tentative discovery of evidence for inflationary gravitational waves - which was later placed in doubt.
2013: Includes a feature on the discovery of the Higgs boson.
2012: Includes features on the search for physical evidence of inflation and a conversation with the late physicist Marvin Goldberger, a member of the Manhattan Project.
The Kavli Foundation
Between 2011 and 2014, I worked as a contract writer covering astrophysics, neuroscience, and nanotechnology for The Kavli Foundation, which supports research in these fields at universities around the world. I produced Q&A interviews with scientists, hosted live webcasts, worked on press releases, and helped run social media campaigns. Below are a few highlights (for a full list please contact me):
Astrophysics:
Searching for the First Stars
A roundtable interview with George Becker, Richard Ellis, and Avi Loeb
Are We Closing in on Dark Matter?
A roundtable interview with Michael Turner, Edward "Rocky" Kolb, and Maria Spiropulu
Revealing Dark Energy's Hold on the Universe
A roundtable interview with Michael Niemack, David Spergel, and Masahiro Takada
Dark Energy: On the Brink of Discovery?
A webcast interview with Joshua Frieman, Michael Niemack, and Marcelle-Soares-Santos.
A roundtable interview with Roger Blandford, Priyamvada Natarajan, Tommaso Treu, and John Wise

Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute
From 2011 to 2014, I wrote for SBP's award-winning blog, Beaker, writing about research on cancer, heart failure, obesity, and other subjects. I also wrote a few press releases. Beaker has been discontinued, but below you can find some of the work I did for SPB:
Blog Post on the molecular causes of heart failure
Blog Post on the physiology of fat metabolism
Blog Post on a new model for studying childhood brain cancer
Press Release on RNA interference drug development
Press Release on targeted drug development using nanoparticles
This page highlights work I've done for universities, foundations, research labs, and companies.
